The EU bio standard for banana production allows the industry to grow bananas using 704 kilograms of plastic waste per hectare/year, which means the entire industry uses 4,614,400,000 kilograms of plastic per year.

No Fumigation

In addition, plane fumigation is increasing farms’ CO2 footprint.

In our region, there are an average of 36 fumigations a year, equivalent to 5,500 liters of kerosene.

In 2019, we decided to stop using plane fumigation to improve our carbon footprint.
